VANCOUVER: To the applause of house full gathering at Gurdwara Khalsa Diwan Society Ross Street-Vancouver on Sunday Dec.1,  Harbhajan Singh Lali M.L.A, was honored and presented a Plaque depicting additional Shield and Sword (kirpan), by the Khalsa Diwan Society. Bhai Kundan Singh Sajjan President presented the Plaque. Earlier Bhai Avtar Singh Sandhu general Secretary congratulated young Lali and urged him to serve the people whole heartedly and glorify the name of his community.

Looking more like a smart Hockey player than a political leader, the 34-yr-old Harbhajan Singh Lali, endearingly called Harry Lali, spoke about the Sikh tenets of love, equality, oneness of God, oneness of human race and service to mankind and stressed upon the need to make extensive efforts for their propagation,. Addressing the capacity packed congregation, Lali said his nonprofessional Punjabi tone, “whatever I have achieved is due to the blessings of God, my community and the people where I live. It is due to the guidance of my parents that I am attached to Sikhism and firmly believe in serving the people honestly”. Lali most fervently appealed to the congregation to preach the universal Sikh tenets, which can prove very effective in promoting better relations, mutual under- standing and multiculturism among varied people where we live. He also urged the youth to equip themselves with highest qualifications and secure better jobs in place of running after ordinary routine jobs. Born in Punjabi, Lali graduated from U.B.C, and was elected N.D.P. M.L.A. from Merrit Constituency in the recent elections. In his most free, frank and meaningful speech Bhai Joginder Singh Sidhu a prominent social worker urged the congregation to follow the teachings of the Gurus, leaving aside baseless rituals and ceremonies and give proper education to their children, Arrangements for Guru ka Langar (holy free food) were made by Bhaj Gurdev Singh Johal, a renowned social worker of Vancouver.
