AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) has objected to the cover of a Mills and Boon r0mance which shows a couple in a compromising pose against the background of the Golden Temple and Akal Takht.

In a strongly worded letter to the British high commissioner in Delhi and the Indian high commissioner in London the SGPC has demanded withdrawal of the novel as it has hurt the sentiments of Sikhs all over the world.

The SGPC has protested against associating the Golden Temple with romance. The author of the novel titled Abode of Princes has described the Golden Temple as one of India’s most beautiful palaces. The SGPC has stated that the Golden Temple was a sacred shrine where thousands of devotees pay obeisance daily and associating it romance was blasphemous. The SGPC has asked Dr. Arjun Kirpal Singh professor emeritus of Sikhism to take up the matter with the author and the publishers Mills and Boon Ltd. London wants the publishers to tender an unqualified apology for injuring Sikh sentiments.
