SRINAGAR: The Army has foiled plans of the militants to blow up the civil secretariat, the legislators’ hostel and the divisional commissioners’ office here and to carry out explosions in Delhi on the occasion of Diwali.
The conspiracy was foiled with the arrest of four militants of the pro Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen from Jawahar Nagar, a posh residential colony here, late last week. The troops seized three improvised, explosive devices (IEDs), each weighing 3.5 kg, along with remote control devices. Brig Shekatkar told reporters that the militants were arrested hours before they would have planted an IED In the legislators’ hostel with the connivance of an inmate who had been identified. The militants confessed their plans.
Brig Shekatkar said that the Army had information about the planned explosions since September 23 and was following clues to track down the militants.
