SRINAGAR: Three senior functionaries of North Kashmir Baramulla district were abducted by a group of unidentified militants on July 6, while 39 people, 29 of them militants were killed in escalated violence and 16 militants were captured in Kashmir Valley last week.

In a sensational kidnapping incident, three senior district officers of border district of Baramulla Mohammad Ramzan and Mohammad Rafi, block development officers of Uniand Rafi Abad, respectively and Baramulla executive engineer were abducted by a Waiting group of militants soon after they came out of a meeting.

Ramzan belongs to Srinagar and Rafi hails from Baramulla. The identity of the executive engineer was not immediately known, the sources said.

They are holding two hostages, Pankaj Kumar Shina, former Bihar MLA and Ghulam Mohammad Khanday, a contractor.

Militants also kidnapped a leading advocate of the Valley, Zaffar Qureshi, from his Zakoora residence in Srinagar .

Another person, a cop, Gulzar Malik working in district police Baramulla, was kidnapped from his residence and his whereabouts were not known so far, officials said.
