LUDHIANA: Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukhdev Singh of Punjab police was killed and two constables injured when they raided a house at Dharaur village in this district in an effort to arrest or kill certain militants there.

The Sikh militants pre-empted the raid by firing at the police party killing its chief on the spot. The militants escaped as the raiding police party withdrew after suffering causalities.

Evidently the Indian police had been correctly informed about the stay of the militants in the village by its intelligence men now spread all over the state on an unprecedented scale,
