AMRITSAR: The AISSF (Manjit) has decided to raise a memorial inside the Golden Temple complex to AISSF Chief Amrik Singh and it-gen Subheg Singh, Damdani Taskal leader Bhai Thara Singh and others killed during Operation Bluestar in 1984.
The federation, it is learnt has already chalked out a secret plan for the proposed memorial. It will approach the SGPC in a next few days for its formal approval.
The federation’s endeavor would be to raise the memorial in form an ancillary shrine with a plaque carrying names of the kar seva of Akal Takht, which resumed recently in the event of the SGCP not agreeing to the plan the federation is determined to do ahead.
Giving information about the plan the federation general secretary Harminder Singh Gill said recently that the memorial would be constructed adjacent to Akal Takht building where pitched battle was fought between the followers of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and the Army.
Significantly, Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s name does not figure in the list of “martyrs” whose name would be inscribed on the memorial. When asked, Gill said the federation would not like to spark off any controversy because many still believed that Sant Bhindranwale was alive.
The proposed memorial, he said, would be on the pattern of the memorial-cum-shrine of Baba Deep Singh in the temple par karma.
