LUDHIANA: Indian security forces surrounded the Dukhniwarn shrine here to forestall an attempt by the militant All India Sikh Students Federation (Mehta Group) from holding its central committee meeting Thursday.
Federation president Rajendra Singh Mehta condemned the action by the security forces and alleged that 70 workers of their party had been arrested.
He said this was the second time that the police had stopped the ‘party from holding: a meeting.
Police said one AK47 rifle, five magazines and about 700 cartridges were recovered from the spot.
Militants intruded into a house in Mule Wahidpur village in Hoshiarpur district and shot dead one Dalwinder Singh and injured his relative.
Avtar Singh alias Bali and Harvinder Singh alias Ropu, were killed in an encounter near Najamdinpur village in Jalandhar district.
In a separate encounter two unidentified intruders from Pakistan were killed on the Indo Pak border falling in Dera Baba Nanak sector of Gurdaspur district.
Meanwhile seven men were arrested with arms and ammunition in the state, police said here.
Police also rounded up five suspected persons in connection with Wednesday night’s shoot out at Talwandi Bhai in Ferozepur district where 10 people were killed and eight were injured.
