From Our Staff Correspondent AMRITSAR: Guru Nanak Dev University has decided to introduce Punjabi in medical engineering and other professional courses.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the Academic Council on June 16 with the Vice Chancellor Mr. G.S. Randhawa in the chair.

The Vice-chancellor announced that a committee headed by Dean Academic Affairs and Student Welfare, Dr. Harjit Singh was being constituted to formulate suitable syllabus and evolve ways to implement this scheme.

The Academic Council also approved introduction of a new course, postgraduate diploma in journalism from 198990 academic session at Guru Nanak Dev University College, Jalanhar.

The meeting also approved the establishment of a new faculty of applied sciences.

The Council also approved the recommendations of equivalence committee to recognize the B.A. Course (semester system) of Poona University as equivalent to the B.A. degree course of GND university the B.E. degree of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology Patiala, for purpose of admission to the M.B.A course, the Bachelor of textile degree of MDU, Rohtak for admission to diploma course in business management B. Tech degree of Kanpur University for admission to diplomat in marketing management course, B.Ed.M.Ed. degree of Jiwaji University Gwalior for admissions to diploma in business man agement, M.A. (Punjabi) (semester system) of Kurukshetra University as equivalent to M.a. (Punjabi) MS.c (defence studies) of Madras University for admission to diploma in business management and B.A. (Hons) (Mathematics) of Delhi University as equivalent to the B.A. pass course GND.

Meanwhile in a notification by the Dean Academic Affairs and Student Welfare, it was stated that the semester examinations will commence from June 21 as per schedule.

The candidates not appearing in the examination would do so at their own risk.

GND University in the notification also appealed to the parents to ensure that their wards appeared in their respective semester examinations.
