WASHINGTON: A very unique experiment is being tried in the Sikh community of Washington/Baltimore Metro area. Sikh Seniors of this area meet at GNFA Gurdwara Sahib on second Saturday of every month. Two such gatherings with good attendance have already been held so far. More seniors are being informed about this unique opportunity to meet their peers from back home and the response so far has been very good.
It is planned that the youth of the community be involved in this program so that they can interact with the elderly of the community. This will help them learn Punjabi and also teach them the Punjabi etiquettes of behavior in presence of the elderly.
It is hoped that ultimately all seniors living in the Metro area would join and in addition to having good time themselves will become a guiding force in shaping the future of our next generation through their contact and interaction with them.
Also of help are these meetings to the management of GNFA. Many good suggestions are being put forward by these seniors which they want see implemented in the Gurdwara programs.
