AMRITSAR: Lured by adventure and the glamour of militancy a number of Hindu youths form the rural areas of the border districts have joined the fold of militants it is reliably learnt.
Many of them according to police sources hold high positions in militant organizations. A couple of them Lt Generals and close lieutenants of the prung militant leaders.
Earlier there were isolated instances of Hindu boys joining militants but of late the number of such youths has swelled considerably.
According to the police a dozen Hindu militants operate in the police districts of Amritsar Tarn Taran Majitha and Batala. The number of those who do not figure in the police records is anybody’s guess.
Such militants lure other youths into their ranks at the behest of their top leaders. Bakhshish Singh alias Kaljug a Lt General of the Khalistan Armed Force who was recently killed in an encounter was actually Vishnu a son of a shop Keeper Bihari Lal of Kamalpur village in the Majitha area. He was involved in at least 50 killings including those of security personnel in ambushes.
According to militant sources the family of Vishnu was associated with Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and two of its members were killed inside the Golden Temple complex during Operation Bluestar in 1984. Vishnu started five years ago and gradually turned into a top militant. He was arrested three years ago but released on an assurance of the Village panchayat.
Back in the militants’ fold he rose to become a Lt-General. He became an amrit dhari and changed his name to Bakhshish Singh. i.e.

Militant organizations too are reportedly keen to have clean-shaven Hindu youths in their ranks because they are not suspected by the police. Such youths are useful in carrying messages and weapons and getting ransom amounts. They operate smoothly.
A Lt-General of Dashmesh Regiment Yaadvinder alias Goldy who belongs to a Hindu family of the Khalra area has been a top militant. He used to fix of meetings between top militant leaders of various outfits and was himself involved in about 50 cases. He is reported to be or bail these days.
Gullu a youth from the Brahmi of Khilchian town near Bene is a cred category militant of the Khalistan Commando Force. As a Lt-General he is said to be close to the inner core group of the outfit and is wanted in several crimes.
Likewise another Hindu youth nicknamed as Pappu of Mehsampura Village which has witnessed a large scale migration of the minority community was coaxed into the militants’ rank two years ago and is now an A category militant .

In the recent past at least three youngsters coming from the Hindu families of the lower middle class at Rayya town had taken to the arms but were rescued by the police and their parents before it was too late. A Hindu family in Khem Karan has not its three young members all brothers to militancy .they were killed in encounter with the police one the after they had police one after the other after they had become hardcore militants Tribune.
