CHANDIGARH:  Akali DAI (Mann) chief, Simranjit Singh Mann Thursday demanded the release of Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda and Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha, who had been convicted in the gen A.S. Vaidya assassination case and described their conviction as illegal and unconstitutional.

Talking to newsmen, Mann referred to the govt statement about the release of the two that a petition was pending in the supreme court on it, Mann said if the govt wanted, he was willing to withdraw the petition he had filed challenging their conviction. The two are among the militants whose release the abductors of Romanian diplomat Liviu Radu have asked for.

Asked by newsmen whether he approved the abduction of the Romanian diplomat, Mann said abduction from any side the governments or the militants was not good. Mana told reporters that a “separate Sikh state is our goal and we will achieve this through demo crate and peaceful means.” This was the main demand of the Sarbat Khalsa held in 1986 and also other Sikh organizations, he added.

Replying to a question, Mann said “we do not want to adopt path of violence for achieving this goal, as I am confident that democratic means never fail”.
