CHANDIGARH: The Mann group of Akalis has asserted that Punjab water through the S.Y.L. canal would not be allowed to be transferred and it would confront the army and the police too, if necessary. A decision to this effect was taken by the office bearers of the party who met at the residence of Simranjit Singh Mann in Fatehgarh Saheb district. Mann presided over the meeting. The meeting also reviewed the situation arising out of the appointment of Prof Manjit Singh as Acting Jathedar of Akal Takhat and said that the decision had been taken hastily without consulting Sikhs and their representatives. No S.GP.C, election had been held since 1979 and the present leadership did not represent the new forces that had been unleashed on Punjab’s political landscape. The meeting in another resolution said that the government was feeding the police and paramilitary personnel, There was persecution of minorities such as Sikhs, Muslims and Christians. The party said that it had plans to organize the public to meet the government’s challenge.
