AMRITSAR: Sikh political party Akali Dal (Mann) president Simran Jeet Singh Mann and some other leaders of his party were Oct 22 rounded up for violating the ban on carrying of firearms in the 100metre area around the Golden Temple, the main Sikh spiritual shrine.

Mann, who arrived at the temple to preside over a meeting of Sikh intellectuals at the party office here in the afternoon, was escorted out of the temple complex by police and security forces. Mann and others tried to force entry along with their gunmen later they were taken to the police station.

Among those rounded up were the party vice president Tarlok Singh and the secretary Jeet Singh.

Mann, who in the recent has been adopting increasingly militant postures, resigned his seat from the lower house of Indian parliament this month protesting federal govt’s polices towards Punjab.
