AMRITSAR: Akali Dal-Mann, the majority parties in Punjab and the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) have refused to vacate their offices in the Sikh temple management committee (SGPC) complex in this holy city of the Sikhs.
The SGPC had, by a resolution passed at its executive on January 18, sought vacation of the offices from Akali Dal factions and the AISSF. Besides Akali Dal-Mann and the AISSF, the Akali Dal Badal and Akali Dal Longowal groups also maintained offices in the complex although they were not functioning.
Mann faction president Simranjit Singh Mann, while maintaining that the party office would “stay” in the complex, said “nobody has the right to get it vacated.”
Two federation leaders, President Manjit Singh and organizing secretary Rajinder Singh Mehta, expressing strong resentment over the SGPC executive resolution, said it was not the personal property of SGPC chief G.S. Tohra.
They said no permission was required from SGPC for keeping the federation office in the complex.
