NEW DELHI (PTI): Indian finance minister Manmohan Singh on Sept.17 said that the government has decided to remove irritants in the present structure of central excise and customs and further streamline the procedural simplification in order to make export more profitable.

Dr. Singh said the finance ministry was now examining the central excise and customs tariff structure and would soon take measures for further simplification which the exporting community and the industry would find “rewarding.” The finance minister was inaugurating the 28th annual general meeting of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO).

He said the finance ministry and the commerce ministry, both of which were on the same wavelength to push forward economic reforms, would coordinate with one another to remove remaining irritants in the export front in order to give a quantum jump to country’s export performance.

The finance minister indicated the government would also remove remaining obstacles in the foreign exchange control system in order to further stimulate export activities.
