PATIALA: The SGPC has decided to install Prof Manjit Singh, a renowned “parcharak” from Patiala, as Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib.
This coveted post (one of the five high priests) had been lying vacant for about one year after the assassination of Giani Balbir Singh by terrorists.
Prof Manjit Singh (38), who possesses MA (Punjabi) and MA. (Religion) degrees and has cleared a two year diploma course in religious studies from Sikh Missionary College, Amritsar has been working as a preacher for about 15 years. He has visited many countries.
Atits meeting, which continued for the second day here under the chairmanship of the acting President, Mr. Ujjagar Singh Rangretta, and the SGPC approved the termination of the services of five senior officials, including an Assistant Secretary. Mr. Puran Singh Josh and Mr. Shiv Singh Khushipur reportedly recorded their dissent on this issue.
The Dharam Parchar Committee of the SGPC which met here under the president ship of Gurdev ‘Singh Badal, decided to construct a building for Sikh Missionary College at the Amritsar Jalandhar bypass Amritsar.
