NEAPEN (ONTARIO) Recently, a suspect was arrested for the fatal Air India crash. Manjit Singh, the alleged ‘brains’ behind the incident is being held by Bombay police who reported that he had tried to “bite off his tongue.”

W.S.O., Canada (World Sikh Organization) has contacted Canadian Parliamentarians claiming that the suspect is likely to be tortured to solicit a confession.

In a letter to Barbara McDougall, W.S.O. president, Ram R.S. Chahal said, “Regarding the alleged suspect Manjit Singh:

The Ouawa Citizen reported on Aug.5,1992 that the said suspect has mutilated himself by attempting to bite off his tongue. The Associated Press report states:

Police heard a crunching sound and saw blood oozing out of the mouth of Manjit Singh when they were questioning him in police station July 28, said Additional Police Commissioner A.A, Khan.”

We warmed you that this man is sure to be tortured. Once again we want to state Clearly and categorically, any damage that has occurred to this man’s tongue, cannot be self-inflicted but has been done to him.

1) Tongues do not “crunch” when bitten.

2) Major blood vessels are located under the tongue, They would be impossible to severe by biting oneself. Therefore “blood oozing as described is not likely.

We are presently getting reports from human rights groups that other prisoners are also suffering severed tongues during interrogation.

We are heartened to hear that the RCMP has decided to take an interest in this particular case, However, lest it slip out of their control, we are again requesting that the Canadian government makes certain that this man is not further abused. He is a suspect in a case that is of great concern to Canada. If he is killed or “disappears” we will never learn the truth behind the accusations and allegations made against him. It is surely time to get to the bottom of things and let justice prevail.” Ram Raghbir Singh Chahal President WSO, Canada
