CHANDIGARH (PTI) :Militants kidnapped Devinder Pal Singh, nephew of former Punjab police director-general D.S. Mangat and shot dead his guard as four others, including three militants, were killed in north Indian state, Punjab.
Shops and establishments remained closed June 18 in many parts of the state in response to a general strike call, given by some militant organizations in protest against the Behla killings in which seven persons were allegedly used as human shields by security men in a 28-hour-long response in Amritsar, Bathinda, Ropar, Sangruru, Moga, Budh Ladha, Ludhiana, Jagraon, Khanna and Samrala.
The police in the golden city, Amritsar, detained former member of the legislative assembly (MLA) Manjinder Singh Behla for interrogation for allegedly having harbored nine militants in his house in Behla village. Militants kidnapped Davinder Pal Singh from his village house in Jagir pur in Ludhiana district along with his guard constable Ram Singh. Later the bullet ridden body of the guard was found near the new jail in Ludhiana.
