CHANDIGARH: Militants let off 20 persons abducted on Thursday while three militants and a Congress (I) leader were among 15 shot dead in Punjab overnight Saturday.
The 20 persons who were abducted from two villages in Faridkot were brought blindfolded Saturday night in a truck to Chauhar Chak village in the district. The militants asked them to remove the blindfolds only after half an hour and disappeared.
They told police that they were probably kept in a house in Ludhiana and were told by the militants guarding them that they would be released later in the night as they had achieved their target.
The general secretary of Amritsar district unit of youth Congress (I) Madan Lal Gupta was shot dead by militants outside his office in Chowk Bhori locality of the city Saturday night.

The director general of Punjab police Mr D S Mangat who escaped an assassination bid Saturday was progressing in a hospital but doctors amputated the right leg of Mr R C Sethi security in charge of the DGP to save his life. All the ten others injured in the powerful blast were stated to be out of danger.
