NEW DELHI-: It is now certain that the govt is planning to cancel the Punjab election and hold it sometime after Sept 25.
In the meanwhile the resignation of the Governor are being accepted and his successor being named. Several are being mentioned Lt General Prem Hoon , Mr Vasant Sathe, Mr. Surinder Nath, a former advisor to the Punjab governor and even Mr. K.T.S. Tulsi, an advocate of Chandigarh (who is close to former Punjab Governor S.S. Ray and former D.I.G-Police, K-P.S. Gill).
Meanwhile, the Indian Security forces have launched a massive new attack on militants in Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Ferozepore districts with daily rate of killings being maintained at the level Chandra Shekhar left it.
The stepped up State violence is being interpreted as are buff to the U.S. Congress’s concern for human rights in Punjab and Kashmir, According to police officers, the Indian army was not involved in the current campaign even while it was stationed in Punjab in good strength.
