SRINAGAR: The militants clashed with security forces at a number of places in Srinagar city Dec 11 and in two places in downtown areas Wednesday morning. However, no one was injured in the attacks in which rockets, machine guns and other sophisticated weapons were used, sources said. Meanwhile, militants dismissed the reports of an all-party meeting, expected to be convened in Delhi soon to find ways to solve the present turmoil in the valley, as a “futile attempt.”
Despite differences among themselves on several issues, the militants are unanimous in their feelings that “no talks with New Delhi unless security forces are withdrawn from the valley and the government abides by the U N resolutions”.
The talks to solve the Kashmir problem should be held in Geneva or New York under the supervision of United Nations, the militants said.
Militants hurled grenades and opened fire on security forces at Habbakadal and Dareshkadal as authorities relaxed curfew for 13 hours early in the morning in the valley.
The security forces arrested officiating chief of banned Jammu and Kashmir Students Liberation Front his area commander along with 21 others Tuesday.
The arrested militants included two bodyguards of the officiating chief of the JKSLF.
The security forces also recovered a big cache of arms and ammunition from the hideouts of the militants.
