BOMBAY(PTI): Chief minister of the western Indian state of Maharashtra, Sudhakarrao Naik Jan.16 said his government had decided to hold a judicial inquiry into the post Ayodhya riots in this city as suggested by prime minister P.V.Narasimha Rao during his visit Friday.

Addressing a press conference immediately after a cabinet meeting, Naik said the government had requested the chief justice of Bombay High Court to name a sitting Judge of the High Court to conduct the inquiry. The inquiry would be held under the rules of commission of inquiry and the terms and conditions would be decided within two days, he said.

Attempts would be made to obtain a report from the inquiry at the earliest, he added.

The government had also set up a unit of officers to help and assist the not hit victims, Cast compensation of 200 thousand rupees would be given to the next of kin of those killed in the notes, the chief minister said.
