NEW DELHI (PTI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has accepted the request of its joint director K. Madhavan to be taken off all seven stock scam cases he had been investigating,

According to CBI sources, anther joint director has been assigned to the investigations on August 10,

Madhavan had made a written request to the CBI director asking to be relieved of all the stock scam cases three days after his letter of July 20 in which he sought voluntary retirement three years before his time,

He was scheduled to resume duty on Monday at the end of his week’s leave which he had taken on medical grounds, The CBI director had temporarily allocated the cases being investigated by Madhavan to R.C.Sharma, Joint Director and head of the Special Investigating Group.

CBI sources indicated that Madhavan’s request for voluntary retirement was also likely to be accepted, in which case he would retire in October at the end of the stipulated three months notice period.

Madhavan’s plea for voluntary retirement had sparked off a furore in parliament with the government denying charges of any interference from the prime minister’s office or other quarters to scuttle the investigation,

Madhavan was handling seven of the 10 stock scam cases registered by the CBI.
