CHICAGO, ILL: The 8th Annual Asian American Coalition of Chicago Lunar New Year Celebration announced that the Coalition will sponsor its 1991 gala on February 23 in the new Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, 9300 West Bryn Mawr Avenue, Rosemont, Illinois, from 5:30 p.m. 10:00 p.m.
Every year a different Asian community takes tum playing host, and this year it is the Chinese community.
Lunar New Year traditionally is the single largest organized annual event in Chicago’s Asian American community, which numbers approximately 400,000. Over 1100 people are expected to attend the festivities. Sikh Americans of Chicago co-sponsor this event.
This year marks 4689, the Year of the Ram The Coalition also announced that Dr. Chang-LinTien, the new Chancellor of the University of California at Berkeley, is scheduled to give the keynote address, along this year’s theme line, “Together, We Can.” The event will also feature an opening musical number showcasing 80 Asian American artists doing an original song written by Chicago artist Keith Uchmima, Tickets are $350 per table of tea or $35 each. Sikh Religious Society of Chicago, Association of Sikh Professionals, Sikh American Heritage Foundation have joined hands in reserving 80 Prime Seats for Sikh Americans to attend this event where Governor of Illinois, mayor of Chicago, Illinois Senators, Congressmen and many other V.LP.”s are expected to be present.
Asian American minority is gaining clout in U.S. politics and Sikh Americans are a strongly visible part of it.
