JALLANDHAR: Lt. General BaIbir ‘Singh Khaira alias Sukhdey Singh Sakhera of the Khalistan Liberation Force was killed by the police.

A police spokesman said that three people were traveling near Jallandhar on a tractor when a police party challenged them.

On being challenged, they fired at the police party which returned fire. The encounter lasted for three hours and two people were killed by the police. The third took a cyanide pill after his ammunition was finished.

Baldev Singh was a resident of Canada. He had been arrested once in Pakistan for a involvement in an altercation with an Indian diplomat at a Gurdwara.

Sakhura was a prominent freedom fighter and his death in a major loss to the movement.

Statement by the Panthi Committee expressed its sorrow at his untimely dismiss and said that the freedom fighters would continue to fight for his mission of a free and sovereign Khalistan.

Another report said’ that General Gurjant Singh Budh Singh Wala of the Khalistan Liberation Force, has been arrested since the last few days. No confirmation was forthcoming from the authorities, but it is said that Gen. Gurjant Singh was arrested after an encounter with a police party.
