Jan.21, will mark the 200th anniversary of the guillotining of King Louis XVI, who was swept aside by the French Revolution of 1789. French royalists had hoped to mark the occasion with a ceremony on the Place de ta Concorde, the spot where the deposed monarch was beheaded. But the police and the Ministry of Culture have banned the event, with the police saying demonstrations are never allowed al the site. Even if they can’t hold their demonstration, the royalists plan a round of religious services.
