NEW DELHI: The Left party’s onDec.10 welcomed the proposal of the Prime Minister Narasimha Rao to form a “secular front” and expressed their readiness to join hands with the Congress-I and other secular forces. In the country to fight forces of anarchy and chaos to restore peace and normalcy in communally disturbed areas.

The CPI general secretary Indrajit Gupta said the Left parties had already advised Rao in the course of a discussion here on Wednesday to send his ministers and parliamentarians to various parts of communally disturbed areas in the country in this connection. He said the Prime Minister had lost confidence of the people because of the “bungling” on Ayodhya issue.

The CPI leader said the demolition of the Babri Masjid was an outrage and a crime which was unpardonable. It was a blot on the nation’s image.

Gupta said the Center must take immediate steps to ban all fundamentalist religious outfits in the country take control of the entire disputed land through legislation deploy Army in supersensitive areas to restore communal amity and provide additional protection to minorities.

Gupta said the Left parties had already directed their various cadres to join hands with other secular forces and combat all efforts for communal confrontation.

He said on NF-LF delegation on Wednesday called on the President Dr.Shankar Dayal Sharma and a LF delegation met the Prime Minister and expressed their concern about the spread of communal violence in the country.

Gupta said the delegation impressed upon them to utilize electronic media to scotch rumors and appeal to the people to maintain peace and amity.

Meanwhile the Janata Dal ruled out joint campaign with the Congress-I against communalism or join the proposed secular Front floated by it and admitted differences with Left parties on this issue.

Dal spokesman Hari Kishore Singh told newspersons that there could be no commonality of views with a party which had failed in its responsibility to protect the Constitution and the rule of law by permitting the demolition of Babri Masjid.

He admitted differences in perception between the National Front and Left parties on this issue but said this would be sorted out soon “We had differences with Left parties on the presidential candidate but it did not result in parting of ways between the two combines” he said adding that there was unanimity of views among the Front constituents about having to truck with Congress-I in the campaign against communalism.

The CPM accused the Prime Minister of not taking any “measures” lo restore peace in the country.

The whole country was burning under the communal onslaught after the Ayodhya issue and the government was allowing it to deteriorate further by not doing “anything” CPM politburo member Harkishan Singh Surjeet said.

He alleged that P.V Narasimha Rao was assured support by all political parties barring the Bharatiya Janata Party at the National Integration Council meeting on Nov.23 to act decisively and not allow any part to precipitate issue.

Harkishan Singh Surjeet admitted that the coordination bondage between NF-LF had weakened and it was time to function in a cohesive manner.

Asked about prospects of midterm elections in view of the current disturbed situation the CPM leader said that the countrymen were not in favor of any poll at this stage as it would impose a huge financial burden again.

He said that the nation would prefer poll in on economic issues and not on temple and mosque issue.

A parliamentary delegation of the Communist of Party of India (CPI) said that the destruction of Babri Masjid at Ayodhya was “preplanned” work carried out by “some people carefully drafted for the purpose.”

Addressing a news conference the delegation members Gurudas Dasgupta Vijoy Kumar Yadav and Tej Narain Singh said that after their on-the-spot study of the site it was noticed that the administration there was made “ineffective” by the State Government.

The Indian Peoples Front (IPF) president Nagbhushan Pattanayak demanded the resignation of P.V.Narasimha Rao for “his inept handling of the Ayodhya problem.”

In a statement here Pattanayak said that the nation could not excuse either Rao or the “communal fascists represented by the BJPVHP-RSS combine.”
