Respected Members:

We are a Sikh religious society. We operate and manage a huge, magnificent temple and a school in Vancouver, Our society was established in 1906. We have over 14,000 registered members of our society. There are thousands more non-registered members who also attend religious services at our temple. Free meals are served to the congregation and to the needy following the religious services at the temple. Thousands of non-Sikh visitors come to visit our spectacular temple buildings and to learn about our religion every day.

We are proud that the Norwegian Nobel Committee awards the Nobel Peace Prize every year to a person who has done outstanding services for humanity and mankind for peace in the world, One such person is Saint Puran Singh in Amritsar, India. Saint Puran Singh runs a charitable organization  Pingalwara (House for handicapped and sick people), in Amritsar, India. His humble services include giving shelter, food, clothes, and medicine to such helpless, poor, destitute people. He has devoted his entire life to this noble cause, serving helpless physically and mentally handicapped people and people with horrible sickness such as leprosy, polio, etc.

The Indian government and many organizations have awarded Saint Puran Singh with honorary awards for his devotion to poor and sick people.

Time to time we make announcements at our Gurdwara (House of God), appealing to our members to send generous donations to Saint Puran Singh for his organization, Our Gurdwara itself also has sent generous donations many times to Saint Puran Singh’s Pingalwara (House for handicapped and sick people).

Our membership has requested us to write to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, appealing that this year’s Nobel Peace Prize be awarded to this great man, Saini Puran Singh. We hope you consider giving this tremendous honor to this deserving individual.

In a county like India, to run such a mission as to devote one’s life 10 helping others who are less fortunate requires a spirited and truly heartful individual, Saint Puran Singh is such an individual, We have first-hand knowledge of his great and worthy accomplishments,

India has no government social services or programs such as disability pensions, welfare, free Medicare, etc. as in western countries. So the poor people live very miserable lives in India. The only hope for them is a person like Saint Puran Singh (Bhagat Puran Singh: Pingalwara, Tehsilpura, Amritsar, Punjab, India.)

If more information is required, please do not hesitate to write us. Please keep us informed on this matter. Thank you,

Avtar Singh Sandhu

General Secretary.
