Dear Mr. Editor:
The August 21, 1987, issue of World Sikh News carried the sad news of an anti-Sikh riot victim who committed suicide due to economic hardship. I shudder to wonder how many more similarly placed Sikh men, women and children are undergoing hardships. Where as it is good that you reported the news of the suffering of the unfortunate victims. I think it also deserves soul-searching on the part of those who are little more fortunate and in position to do something to ameliorate the economic depression of less fortunate, In this regard, [suggest that World Sikh News should set up a trust fund to be administered by five trustees to be picked up from ‘North America including Canada. Let the funds come from all over in any denomination and so should the request from the needy from India. If this suggestion is accept= able, [pledge $101.00 to this what I believe to be a noble cause, If any of your readers have a better suggestion, I would like him or her to come forward: Another suggestion. could be an Akhand Path all across N, America on one particular day and all the proceeds to go such a fund, The terms of such a trust can be defined as strictly or bravely, as the sangat may desire. It is my firm belief as also confirmed by many Visitors from India, that worse is yet to come. So, lets get started on something worthwhile so that we can all live up to the noble tenets of our faith.
