I agree with your condemnation. of Rushdie’s Satanic Verses. But by calling for its ban you have joined the ranks of rulers of India. Aren’t Sikhs fighting for some precious freedoms including the freedom of press? Precedence of ban on writings, offensive or unpalatable, have hurt many times the interests of minorities Muslims and Sikhs.
If there are ways to suppress or ignore “spurious writings”, a ban is the least desirable. An artist always pushes at the limits and bounds imposed by society! A researcher, a writer, a thinker treads where others haven’t. Worlds would not have been discovered without venturing into the unknown.
