LOS ANGELES: Leo Me Canhhy, Lieutenant Governor of State of California appointed Lakhbir Singh Chima, resident of Northridge, California, as a commissioner for anti-crime hate violence which is one of the most distressing and repugnant problems seen in recent years. These crimes are committed because of the victim’s race, religion or sexual orientation,

The roots of the hate crimes epidemic lie in inadequate efforts to teach our children from the beginning to respect and value diversity. We must teach them to think critically an sympathetically ‘and to understand the moral bankruptcy of the philosophies of bigotry spouted by so many groups today. We must give them the intellectual and moral tools they will need to operate in a society as diverse as California’s i fast becoming.

As the Lieutenant Governor ‘mentioned in Chima’s appointment letter that the Commission on the. Prevention of Hate Violence is focusing on educating the next generation of Californians against bigotry and prejudice. The Commission is in a process of examining, existing programs of this nature ‘and working to develop a host of responses including educating standards and program formats to be used throughout our school system, and increased and improved education and training for the law enforcement community.

Chima is a President of Valley Soils Engineering Corporation located in South Pasadena, California. He is a licensed professional Civil Engineer not only in the state of Califon, but also in the states of Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Illinois. Prior to starting his own engineering firm.

Chima performed his services for the state of Milionis, Division of Highways, Bureau of Research and Development as a Project Research Engineer. After 3 years with the State of Iino, his major employment in California was with California Testing Laboratory Division of AETL as a Chief Engineer. His duties included supervision of all materials testing, concrete and as phallic mix designs, all related engineering matters including evaluation and directing, investigation and testing of foundation materials for highways, bridges, airports, residential buildings, commercial and indusial buildings, shopping centers, high rise structures, slope stability analysis, shoring and buttress fill designs and responsibility also included the preparation of soils ‘and foundation investigation reports with recommendations.

In 1972, Chima stated his own engineering firm, Valley Soils Engineering Corporation in South Pasadena, California. Since then, Chima has provided engineering services on numerous different types of projects all over the States of California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada. For the last 15 years, Chima concentrated mainly on shopping centers and high rise structures. Just to name few, the most notable shopping centers are University Town Center in La Jolla, California, Oakridge Mall in San Jose, Solano Mall in Fairfield, CA, Hat home Plaza in Hawthorne, CA, Kelso Town Center in Kalso, Washington, Las Vegas Fashion Show in Las Vegas, Palm Desert ‘Town Center, CA, Rouge Valley Mall in Medford, Oregon, Stevens Creek in San Jose, Clackamas Town Centers Portland, Ore, Cerritos Shopping Center. All together over 60 of them. The average cost was from 300 to 400 million per shopping center. ‘Chima also played a substantial role in the community affairs. He was President and Chairman from 1980 to 1983 for the Sikh Study Circle at Vermont in Hollywood. Chima is also one of the Sewadars ‘who drove his car and went door to door to collect funds to establish ‘Sikh Gurdwara of Los Angeles at Lanker shim, North Hollywood. China is also involved politically for Sikh cause and the World Sikh ‘Organization since its conception. He is Vice President for WSO. Chima also contributed his time and money to promote the World Sikh News the only paper in English which can be considered the Voice of Sikhs and discloses the ‘brutalities committed by the Indian government against the Sikhs in Punjab. Chima is a senior Vice President of World Sikh News.
