NEW DELHI: In a significant development. Left partics supporting the National Front government today opposed any move to keep in abeyance the August 13 order of job reservation for backward classes.
At a meeting here this morning, representatives of the CPM, CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc reiterated their stand in support of reservation for socially and educationally backward classes and dissociated themselves from any move to hold it in abeyance a CPM press release said.
The left parties strongly disapproved the “dubious” role played by sections of the Congress and BJP in the current anti-reservation and adding fuel to fire.
The meeting appealed to the Prime Minister to earnestly consider sections of teachers, students and political parties including an all parties meeting so as to defuse the situation,
The left party leaders expressed serious concern about the tum which the agiation had taken. Antisocial and criminal elements had taken over the agitation in certain parts of Delhi and elsewhere, indulging in incendiarism and a looting spree.
The meeting expressed deep anguish at the continuing incidents of self-immolation and suicide bids of young students
