NEW DELHI: Major political parties including the Congress (I) called for an early mid-term poll to the Lok Sabha while some Congress (I) leaders came out with other suggestions to tide over the present governmental crisis.
The Congress (I) has written to the election commission suggesting that the mid-term polls be fixed sometime between May 5 and 25 that is after the month long Muslim Ramzan fasting and the end of school and college examinations.
The letter written by the AICC (Dgeneral Secretary Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad said the only alternative to the present political ‘imbroglio’ was holding a midterm poll
However the senior Congress (I) leader Dr Jagannath Mishra urged the Janata Dal (S) to help in. formation of a new government and support Mr Rajiv Gandhi for prime minister ship Two other senior party leaders from Karnataka Mr C K Jaffer Sharief and PCC chief Oscar Fernandes urged the president to not to order elections as the ‘atmosphere is not conducive for the polls’.
The national front chairman Mr N T Rama Rao the CPI general secretary Mr Indrajit Gupta and the CPI-M central committee as also the Akali Dal (Mann) leader Mr Simranjit Singh Mann speaking separately demanded that the president dissolve the Lok Sabhz and order mid-term poll.
