NEW DELHI: A militant leader Shabbir Shah, who is undergoing treatment here at AIIMS feels India, Pakistan and the Kashmiris should amicably resolve the Kashmir issue to end the suffering of the people of the State.

In 2 Statement here on Oct6, Shabbir, who is undergoing imprisonment for the past four years, said the “gun was a part of our struggle, but not the solution.”

He appealed to United States President Bill Clinton to stop the endless killings in the Kashmir Valley, The intelligentsia in India can play an important role in finding a way out of the present impasse, he said.

Referring to the solution, Shabbir, who is associated with the banned People’s League, said “I can only say that though the historical milestone like the UN resolutions of 1948 cannot be ignored, it is primarily the will of the people that must decide the future of Kashmir.”

He said there was a need for forming a political platform and “all groups in Kashmir must honestly work towards strengthening the all-party Hurriyat Conference.

 Shabbir‘said “we should let by gones be bygones and welcome all legitimate Kashmiri leaders to play their part. Expatriate Kashmiris, who have contributed. So much to our movement must also be included.”

He said the people of Kashmir should not allow anyone to communalize the movement in Kashmir.

He urged “all peace loving people in India and the world to help us regain our paradise lost and bring back smiles to the faces of our beautiful children.”

He said human rights were “a vital concern for all of us, bur abuses continue in one form or other in each country. Incidents like Kishwara Killings on August 14 was tragic, but it would be even More unfortunate if it was given a communal touch.” He also thanked those who have expressed con 1 about his health and welfare.
