CHANDIGARH: The ongoing strike of lawyers” took a new turn as members of the Action Committee and representatives of the Bar Associations of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh continue the boycott of courts till March 2.
The agitation strives for a judicial and CBI enquiry into the alleged killing of an advocate Kulwant Singh, his wife and child.
He disclosed that a decision was taken at the meeting to hold a rally at the Punjab and Haryana High Court premises on March 2. The rallyists will march either to the state assembly or the Punjab Raj Bhawan and court arrest, he added.
In a significant development the lawyers demanded similar enquiry into the reported disappearance of two advocates Ranbir Singh Mansaiya and Jagwinder Singh. Both missing in the last six months.
The meeting decided to approach the Bar Council of India besides the respective bar associations of various states. Copies of the fact-finding committee’s report will be submitted to the President and Vice-president of India as well as the MLA’s of Punjab, he added.
Meanwhile, Dhuriwalla has demanded that the State consumer Commission from the ongoing lawyers strike and allow advocates to argue cases before it.
Commission president Justice S.S.Sandhawalia had written to the Bar Association explaining that, as consumer courts must deliver their judgment within 90 days of the filing of a complaint, the lawyers’ strike goes against the interest of county men.
