MOSCOW (PTI): Russia has offered India its latest combat aircraft, the MIG31, as part of its efforts to reassert its preeminence as the principal arms supplier to India, according to reporters.

A Russian delegation is currently in New Delhi to discuss March 19 possible sale of the MIG31. Reporters said in a report on the same day.

“Enterprises of the Russian military industrial complex have after brief lull begun acting resolutely about the Indian arms market which they do not intend to surrender without fight to western competition,” the reporters said.

It also quoted a Russian expert involved in arms sales to India as saying that the Russians had offered the S54 as a trainer aircraft to India.

India is currently looking at the French alpha jet and the British hawk as possible trainer aircraft for its air force.
