Jag Deepak Singh claimed his association with AISSF and its demand for an independent state. He is 21, single and hails from Amriitsar. He came to Los Angeles on Sept.15,1992 without any documents and was placed under exclusions proceedings. He was kept in T.I.D. San Pedro, LA, transferred to Arizona, then to Bakersfield and before his release on April 14,1992, he was in San Pedro detention center.
Singh claimed his association with AISSF as a member since 1984 when he was 13 years old. Then in 1988 he became vice president of his college unit. Further claimed to have been harassed by police on three occasions. Honorable Judge decided that Jag Deepak was truthful in his live testimony and fulfilled and requirements to be granted asylum in U.S. The Judge further stated that Singh convinced him of what happened. His brother-in-law, who also was a leader of AISSF, was killed in a fake police encounter onJan.22,1991. The Police always warned Singh that if he did not stop exposition of his political opinions, which were contrary to the Indian government, he was sure to be killed, The treatment by the police and Indian government, forced Mr. Singh to flee from India even though the police could not find any proof of any illegal activities against him, they kept harassing him,
The hearing of Jag Deepak Singh started on March 18,1992 but Judge took about one month to have a closer look on his case and make his decision. Jag deepak Singh spend 7 months in detention and now he is a free man.
