LUDIANA: Kuldip Kaur of Ludhiana was elected President of the Istri Akali Dal at a meeting her today. She replaced Mrs. Rajinder Kaur daughter of Master Tara Singh who was gunned down by some unidentified persons at Bathinda last month.
The meeting appealed to Akali Dal leaders to unite under the banner of the Shiromani Akali Dal
to safeguard the interests of the Sikhs. It threatened to take drastic steps if they failed to unite for the sake of Panthic unity.
By another resolution the Istri Akali Dal sought the release of all Akali Dal leaders and workers detained in Punjab and outside. It sought action against those guilty of the November 1984 riots.
It was decided to strengthen the Istri Akali Dal and launch an “amritprachar” movement among women.
The following are the other office-bearers: Senior Vice President Mrs. Abinash Kaur (Chandigarh): Junior Vice President Mrs. Gurcharan Kaur (Gurdaspur) General Secretary Mrs. Simran Kaur (Amritsar) and Secretary Mrs. Charanjit Kaur (Delhi).
