Bonn: German Chancellor Helmut Kohl will visit India this year to receive the Nehru Award for international understanding. Kohl expressed his happiness for being selected for the award terming it ”an honor which bas t0 do something with peaceful purposes and sovereign rights.” In a luncheon meeting with foreign journalists the chancellor said he would donate the monetary value of the award Rs 150000 for some “significant purposes “ in India He plans to use the occasion to meet Indian leaders and discuss bilateral and international issues. When asked about the reported intention of Bonn to cut down German development aid to India on the grounds that New Delhi had heavy defence expenditures” Kohl said he was neither an expert on German development aid nor was he aware of the details of the problem. However the issue would be discussed during his forthcoming visit to India.
