FARIDKOT: The Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) outfit received another major setback when two of its “area commanders” along with two others were killed in two. Separate encounters with the police in this district last week.
The “area commanders” were identified as Angrez Singh of Waghapurana and Beant Singh of Mehna area. Beant Singh had masterminded the plan to eliminate Chief Minister Beant Singh at Dhudike on January 28 on the birth anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai.
A police spokesman said that the chief of the Khalistan Liberation Force. Dr.Pritam Singh Sekhon, was hiding in Pakistan and Kuldip Singh Keepa and some others were moving about in other states. The police had laid nakabandis and ambushes in the area of police Stations Waghapurana Nihalsinghwala, Mehna and Badhni Kalan area on the night intervening May 1617. The first encounter lasted for one hour on the canal bridge near village Gholia Kalan when militant coming in a truck were asked to stop.
He said that the other encounter took place in the area of village ‘Tarkhan Badh at a bridge on a distributary. Two persons were seen coming from Dhudike side on a scooter,
Beant Singh was an electrician of village Dhudike and came into the fold of the KLFafter his brother was killed by the security forces during operation Blue strain June 1984. He had planned the killing of the Chief Minister at Dhudike but due to strong security arrangements the plan failed.
The police said that Beant Singh was involved in the killing of five policemen in village Diwana in Bamiala police district.
