NEW DELHI, India, Sept. 20, Reuter: Gunmen shot dead four people in the north Indian State of Punjab on Sunday to bring the death toll in four days of violence there to 28.

The Press Trust of India said gunmen struck at three different places in Amritsar district in the morning, killing two people at ‘Verowal and one in Jandiala.

‘A fourth person was killed on the outskirts of the Sikh holy city of Amritsar, it added.

The killings brought to 83 the number who has died this month in the Sikh campaign for an independent nation carved out of Punjab.
