‘Special resolution passed by the Sikh congregation at the Khalsa Diwan Society, 800 Ross Street, Vancouver, B.C. on Sunday 2st September, 1986,

Today’s congregation unanimously resolves to express sincere thanks to the Government of British Columbia for its good gesture in returning (33) thirty three copies of Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh scriptures) to the Sikh community which had here to force been kept in the Law Courts of British Columbia.

Since the Sikhs are prohibited to swear by their Holy Scriptures, it was further resolved to appeal to the government of British Columbia to also return the remaining copies of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ‘which have still been retained in the Chambers of the Chief Justice so that traditional respect for the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the living embodiment of the ten gurus, could be maintained in accordance with the Sikhs’ religious believes.
