AMRITSAR: Paramijit Kaur wife of Jaswant Singh Khalra general secretary of human rights wing of the Akali Dal, who was allegedly “kidnapped” by the police, is planning to contest the Lok Sabha seat of Tam Taran cither on Akali Dal symbol or as in Independent candidate.

Paramjit Kaur is said to be under Pressure from various human rights organizations to contest the election as they felt that safeguarding of the distinct identity of the Sikhs and restoration of human rights would be the main election plank.

Kirpal Singh Randhawa, secretary, investigation, of Punjab human rights ‘Organization last week told reporters that the issue of fielding Paramjit Kaur had been taken up with Parkash Singh Badal and Gurcharan Singh Tohra senior Akali leaders.

Randhawa said that beside Khalra his wife was also a victim of the government’s repressive policies as she was passing through a prolonged trauma of separation from her husband. He said that even after seven months the whereabouts of Khalra was not known. Paramjit Kaur is currently performing Gurbani recitation before Akal Takht for an indefinite period to pray for the safety of her husband.
