LUDHIANA: The International Human Rights Organization has taken up the case of disappearance of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra with the Canadian Prime Minister, Mr. Jean Chretien, who is visiting India.

The visiting Prime Minister is likely for meet relatives of Mr, Khalra and Mr, Parminder Singh Harfanmaula Who appears to have left India. Mr. Harfanmaula had entered Canada illegally after completing his sentence in Pakistan for hijacking an Indian plane in 1984 and was arrested September 1.

The Canadian Prime Minister, he said, would be accompanied by Mr. Herb Dhaliwal and Mr. Gurbax Singh Malhi both MPs. THRO North American Coordination Office in Canada has urged Mr. Chretien to intercede with the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao, to ensure Mr, Khalra’s release or arrest, if he is wanted by the police in some case.

The IHRO coordinator, Mr. Gurdey Singh Gill, in a memorandum to Mr. Chretien on December 30, has said, “Since you are leading a team to India for investment purpose, we strongly fee! That it is time to take up the human rights issue with the India authorities.

Meanwhile, the THRO has condemned the Delhi bomb blast and expressed sympathies with the victims and their heirs. It has also decided to participate in a dharna in Amritsar being organized by human rights wing on January 23 in protest against Mr. Khalra’s disappearance.
