AMRITSAR, Punjab, India: The Council of Khalistan has urged the United Nations to recognize Khalistan as an independent country and force the Indian government to pull out its troops from its soil since India has been in illegal occupation of Khalistan for the past 40 years to end which Sikhs have been struggling. The demand is contained in a four page handwritten press note of the Council which claims that all the ‘members of the Council in India and abroad met somewhere in India on November 25 to take stock of the situation. The in ‘camera meeting was said to be presided over by the Council’s U. S.A. based President Mr. Gurmeet Singh Aulakh.

The formation of the Council ‘was announced by the Five Member Panthic Committee here on October 7. It was claimed that several key figures supporting Khalistan also participated in the meeting including Dr. Jagjit Singh Chohan; the press note was delivered to the newsmen at the Akal Takht building by a spokesman of the Council.

The Council appealed to the International Human Rights Organization to take cognizance of the atrocities being committed against Sikhs and intervene effectively to stop them. It appealed to the government of Canada, England and other countries not to enter into any extradition treaties with India and said that the concerned governments should send fact finding missions to Punjab. It also requested Pakistan to release the Sikh hijackers. An appeal was also made to Sikh political organizations to give up their lust for power and work for Khalistan.
