ISLAMABAD; Foreign minister Sahab zada Yaqub Khan and two other key ministers retained their posts while Zia’s elder son, Ejaz Ul Hag, was inducted in Pakistan Premier Nawaz Sharif’s 18member cabinet.

Sartaj Aziz remains finance minister and Shujaat Hussain retains the industries portfolio, posts they held under caretaker prime minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, who held office for three months before Sharif took over on Tuesday.

Shujaat Hussein will also hold additional charge of the interior ministry.

Sahab zada Yaqub Khan gets his fourth term as foreign minister. He has been serving in this capacity since 1982 when he retired from the army as Lt General.

The cabinet was named on Friday night but portfolios were no announced until Saturday.

Like Sharif, most of the senior ministers served under the late military ruler general Mohammad Ziaul Haq, who held power for 11 years until he was killed in plane crash in August 1988,

Zia’s elder son Mohammad Ijaz Ul Haq becomes minister of lab ‘our, manpower and overseas Pakis tension a five-day visit to Japan.

The lone Hindu member, Rana Chander Singh, elected from seats reserved for minorities, is the new federal minister for narcotics control.

There are no women members in the cabinet. The national assembly has only two women members Benazir Bhutto and her mother. Begum Nusrat Bhutto—who are both in the opposition.

While Lt. Gen (retd.) Abdul Majid Malik, a caretaker minister has been given charge of food and agriculture, Malik Mohammad Naeem, who was the communications minister in the Jatoi government, has now been appointed commerce minister.

Former national assembly speaker, Fakhr Imam heads the education ministry with additional charge of law, justice and parliamentary affairs. Another former speaker, Hamid Nasser Chatha has been given planning and development with additional charge of science and technology.

Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi, son of former caretaker premier, Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, has been appointed federal minister for communications. Murtaza Jatoi had defeated Asif Ali Zardari from the Nawabshah constituency in Sind in the recent elections.

 Pak cabinet

 President Ghulam Ishaq Khan and Friday sworn in the new cabinet headed by Nawaz Sharif. The president left Saturday for Tokyo.
