AMRITSAR: The second-in-command of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), Balwinder Singh alias Gian Singh alias “Ghora”, was killed in an encounter with security forces near Mushal village on Grand Trunk Road in Amritsar, the Golden Temple town police said.

The militant was responsible for “scores” of militant actions, mostly attacks on security forces in Amritsar region, in Punjab, senior officials said.

The encounter took place when a security force patrol party signaled a truck to stop. But the militants travelling in it refused and fired at the forces who retuned the fire.

The body of the militant, who was also the Lt. Gen and Area Commander of the KCF, was later found in the truck.

Ten AK-47 Chinese assault rifles with 10 magazines, one self-loading rifle, one light automatic rifle, two rifles of 7.26 bore with 98 cartridges, one 303 rifle and one 30 bore revolver were among about twenty weapons seized from the truck.

The arms and ammunition were being transported to some other area, police said.
