CHANDIGARH: Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Shekhar Dhawan issued Summons to MS. Katia, Demand, a French national, and her Kenyan friend, Phillip, directing them to appear in his court on February 16 next.

The CJM, trying Katia kidnap and molestation case, also ruled that the summons would also be sent by registered post to their respective countries through the magistrates of the area in which they lived.

The summonses were issued following an application filed by Chandigarh Deputy District Attomey Pradeep Mechta on December 11 last in this regard. Mr. Dhawan directed the Chandigarh Administration, to provide adequate security to Ms. Katia as and when she visited the city to depose before the court. Mr, Mehta had filed an application under Section 311 of the CrPC, urging the CJM to summon Mr. Labana to appear as a prosecution witness as it was reported in the Press that he had conducted the proceedings of the identification parade, After finding that Mr. Sandhu had conducted the identification parade proceedings, Mr, Mehia filed a fresh amended application under Section 311 of the CrPC, and urged the CJM to summon both Mr, Sandhu and Mr, Labana to appear in the court.as prosecution witnesses. Mr, Dhawan directed defense counsels Aloke Sengupta and Balram Singh to file their reply by January 30 to the amended application and adjourned the case to February 16 for further hearing.
