SRINAGAR (PTI): Defying cur few restrictions, Shia Muslims took out small processions in interior Srinagar on the eve of Muharrum, marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Mohammad.

Fearing trouble, authorities imposed curfew in entire Srinagar city barring three police stations even as the Shia leaders announced “cancellation” of the traditional Muharrum procession in Srinagar to protest against the “imposition of curbs” on the processions, The largest procession was taken out in Shiadominated Badgam district of Central Kashmir, where 20,000 people participated in the procession. However, a few percussionists suffered injuries in the stampede, following sound of gun shots. The policemen escorting the procession also fired warning shots. There was no report of loss of life, official sources said.
