WASHINGTON,DC: On Tuesday, Jan.26, India’s Republic Day, scores of Kashmiri Americans held a protest rally in front of the Indian embassy in Washington, DC. These Kashmrin Americans called upon the Government of India to stop its brutal policies of occupation in Kashmir and permit the implementation of a free and imperial Plebiscite. “January 26 is another black day for the people of disputed territory of Kashmir who have lived in a state of terror and tyranny since 1947. Such terror has attained a new dimension since December 1989 when Kashmins launched a fresh campaign for freedom and human dignity” stated Dr.Ghulam Nabi Fai, Executive Director of the Kashmin Amencan Council “India celebrates this day at its Republic Day and the people of Kashmir have utilized this as another occasion to remind the Government of India that it needs to implement the United Nations Security Council Resolutions of 1948 and 1949. The people of Kashmir the world over observe January 26 as Black Day continued Dr Fai.

“Such observances will continue full India agrees to implement the U.N. Resolutions which guarantee the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir through a democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite” cautioned Dr.Fai.

“We take this opportunity to restate that the United States is a signatory to the UN Resolutions of 1948 and 1949. Clinton Administration can bring peace to the South Asia by pursuing a census resolution policy in Kashmir. It must bring pressure to bear on India to stop its campaign of terror in Kashmir by directly linking the U.S. foreign assistance and trade benefits to India’s performance on human rights; and it must bring all the three parties to the conflict India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir ~ to the negotiating table” concluded Dr.Fai.
